RE. PART 5 - sorry, the mods removed it due to a copyright claim!!! i can't reload as I don't have the file anymore - the film is available with the family tree boxset though I think and you can also download from piratebay - typical that they remove the end of the film and leave the rest... grrrrrr

p2 please note that the reading of the letter is missing.. this has nothing to do with my editing and this doco was like this from the original source I think the letter in full is in the stranger among us documentary and the skin too few documentary is as I understand it now commercially available as part of a nick drake box set - go buy it!
I believe that every artist wants to be heard. I think he must of felt trapped within himself and all the ideas he had to offer. Its like sitting in a room with beautiful paintings you have created but no one cares to look at them. But you can't stop creating more and more beautiful paintings .The ideas are constantly sweeping through your brain.I bet he was thinking what's the fucking point.
well that is a good thing then, that you have that and can cling to it. but everyone is affected by depression differently; it comes from different sources (chemical or cognitive) and is for many people a beat they constantly wrestle. but someone who has no interest in things that once gave them joy is a sure sign of depression. clearly, nick's illness affected his later playing, but maybe, as you say, it is all he had left...
to be honest, as depressed as he obviously was, its quite astonishing that he even finished the songs and managed to get through the session at all. when people are in that bad a state, they often cannot perform the simplest of acts. maybe he did see the futility of it all...
well said. depression is not merely "sadness," but a sense of futility with living, and a realization that so many people never see the pain, or the beauty, of the world around them. time rushes past, and your heart cnnot keep up
It would be nice if his music besides what it really does, could also help "one single person", but shurley this wouldnt be necessary to make it worth it. It couldnt even help himself, but to say the worth of it would depending on this would a selfmissunderstanding, implicitly confirming the scoff of the soldiers at the cross. True art as this carries its value in itself, usually it gives no help in a world like this, but more important: it is not supposed to.
... said Annie Hall. lol Give the doc a chance. He's exactly as you would want him to be. In a way he couldn't be otherwise once you've heard his music.
Wow. Such idiocy. Depression is an organic mental problem caused by lack of chemicals in the brain. Nick Drake didn't suffer from manic depression. He had clinical depression that lasted for most of his life. Pot didn't cause it. Drugs didn't cause it. He didn't have the same affliction as Jimi Hendrix.
My Grandmother struggled with depression from her teens till her natural death at 80 y/o. I hate hearing people say "maybe if he held in there longer." It would be nice if he got better but he could have gotten worse too.
I don't think pot causes "clinical depression" but it can cause temporary depression.I no longer smoke weed because it stopped being a pleasant buzz for me and made me self conscious and morose. It seems pretty far fetched to say pot killed Nick Drake but I can see how it might cause a CLINICALLY depressed person to fall into an even deeper state of despair. Who knows?
Pink Moon is the only record that I listen to every now and then... pure nick and his guitar... brilliant album.
I never said anything about disliking Nick Drake. And yes I AM a Dolly Parton fan as well as a fan of many other songwriters including Nick Drake. P.S. Get off of youtube and go back to school to learn proper grammar and spelling.
Not as pathetic.as peoples dislikes for a great man ..what made you look on hear you must like him or are you a dolly partron fan on the wrong page ... stand by your comments to no there sad and lonely lonely ...
As a serious songwriter herself, I find your comment insulting and pathetic.
Yeah i googled some pictures of her when she was younger. She was one hot fox.
His death romanticises everything about his music, it really taps into that tortured artist thing. I try to listen to the music without the personality in mind & see if i get a different experience. It's futile - like John Keats, Drake's public persona dominates the work.
his sister went on to play Nicola Freeman in the soap Crossroads (you'll find clips of her on youtube)
One of the great ones.....What an incredible amount of musicians he has inspired. Many of who actually started playing only because of him....His timeless music lives on until the end of time.....
"The first thing i seen was his long, long..." Like this if you thought she was going to say Dong? :-)
WARNING THERE ARE 6 DOLLY PARTON FANS THAT HAVE CLICKED DISLIKE ON THE WRONG LINK WARNING BE AWARE SAD DOLLY PARTON FANS THATS WHY THERE IS 6 DISLIKES THAY ASKED ME TO PUT THIS ON HEAR SORRY FROM ALL THE DOLLY PARTON FANS
Went to see where he lived in belsize park was told the house had been knocked down but the cottage still exists at the back there should be some kind of blue plaque
River Man is such an incredibly powerful song.
Would love to see the complete documentary.
in a dream i was talking with Elliott Smith, I was trying to talk about Nick Drake and he had no idea who i was talking about. I wanted so badly to try and make him remember, but i decided that things were for the best and changed the subject...
@jerzy862 Thats because they were upper class. Have a good listen as its not an accent you'll hear much these days. She also has been distinguished with having the hairiest vagina in a T.V. scene. Google it.
What if Nick joined Pink Floyd haha

@powerface71 a very dull one at that
Nick Drake... A great musician.. Simple as that. RIP.
@bimhead01 Fuck you!
Nick perfected the art of letting the instrument speak for you.
DAVE MATTHEWS IS A THIEF!
It's almost as if Nick KNEW that it was approaching. Like he had No Choice in the Matter. He was to die very soon, & this fear stopped him from performing both Guitar & Vocals at the Same time. He knew he didn't have long left...
seems so easy just to let it go on by
greatly shit
greatly disturbed genious
greatly disturbed vgenious
it's verry sad deeply disturbed genious
I will never be as talented as this man, but I understand exactly how he felt.
Thanks so much for uploading this video. What an amazing musician, I wish he was still around to see the impact his music has had on everyone, including me.
Man I really wish Nick were here today to see how much people appreciate his music now....
the age 20 thru 30 yrs could be a harsh time for some, I think was Nick was just too young and impatient
it seems that Nicks sister really cared about her brother alot..
the end of this documentary makes me cry like a bitch, i think of him every time i have cornflakes :(
Me too. Every time
long live the wonderful musical soul of Nicholas Drake
@timjmoran too late lol
wow.. beautiful film !! I pretty much knew most of what was in the film, but it was a wonderful experience nonetheless. Nick was a once in a lifetime artist.. what a shame he was taken from us far too soon. What a pity he could not have gotten better care. One wonders how he might have faired had he been going through his depression in the modern era- if a better anti-depressant might have made a difference. Thanks for posting this, Mr Snow !!!
@brainiacbelle When he was in the hospital I'm sure they had the ability to pick up on something like that.
